Ben tries to be engaging but uses overly complicated textbooks and expects A LOT from even his First Year students as far as reading, analysis and linking concepts into his assignments. He also will neglect to mention things that should be included with assignments, yet dock you marks for not coding in a Kinship interview assignment for example. Only 3 super nerds out of a class of 27 did that part of the assignment, the other 24 lost marks because he failed to mention to us that it was a requirement. Each level with him gets progressively more difficult, so I shudder to think how insane his 4th year classes must be, and you must not place a comma in the wrong spot when doing your citations or he will dock you for it, yet his own grammar and spelling is atrocious, even on slides he posts and leaves on WebCT in advance of the classes. Yet he will get on your case for typos, which is just a bit hypocritical. Ben is a hard marker and if you get 80's in your other classes expect 60's in his. So if you must take his class make sure you take an easy filler class to keep your GPA decent as his courses will bring you down big time.
